E-Prompter - February 16, 2010![]() Stop... Everything! is our worship theme for the season of Lent, which begins this Wednesday evening, February 17 (Ash Wednesday) and concludes on Easter Sunday, April 4. The theme Stop... Everything! describes the powerful invitation extended to us through the Scripture readings during these Sundays in Lent. In these Scripture readings, Jesus offers a radical alternative to the destructive kinds of power, coercion and manipulation that 'rule the roost' here in our world. Instead, Jesus invites us over and again to Stop Everything - to cease using the world's caustic kinds of power - and to live in his way and align ourselves with his kind of power. From the narrative of his temptation in the wilderness (which we will consider on February 21), to his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday (March 28), the Gospel readings describe the way of Jesus that is utterly surrendered to the love of God and thoroughly consistent with the way of the cross. The invitation and challenge, of course, is that we, his people, are called upon to follow in his way. Click here for Scripture Readings and upcoming Sermons. February 17:
