Operation Christmas ChildOperation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ. Pick up your shoe box by the Welcome Center at the church. Brochures with information on how to pack your items are inside the boxes.Visit the Operation Christmas Child website for more detailed information. Our annual Harvest Dinner is scheduled for next Sunday, November 16th immediately following the second worship service. Please plan to join us as our church comes together to give thanks to our Lord for the many blessings bestowed upon our congregation and its people. Turkey and all of the trimmings will be provided, as well as drinks and table service. Each family is asked to bring two dishes to pass, singles may bring one. Those with the last names A-F please bring dessert. Those with the last names G-Z please bring a salad, side dish or casserole.
For those who are interested in participating with the fundraiser we will meet again immediately after choir rehearsal on Wednesday, November 12th.
Our annual business meeting will be Sunday, November 23, immediately following both services. It will last approximately 10 minutes. You will have an opportunity at that time to vote on the ministry budget plan and the new leaders who are being proposed for 2009. Absentee ballots are available at the Welcome Center for those who will not be able to attend the Business Meeting and must be returned to the church office by 4:00 pm Friday, November 21.
As part of the "Come Home to Alma for the Holiday" celebration the 2008 Honduras Team is putting on a Baked Potato Meal with homemade pie on Friday, December 12 at His Place beginning at 5:00PM. The cost is $5. A hot dog with chips plate will also be available for $2.50. Before you go out to celebrate in Alma come join with your friends to support our mission work in Honduras and enjoy a delicious meal. It will be warm inside!
ChristCare Group Ministry will play a big part in our congregation's future. As we continue exploring how ChristCare Groups can benefit our members and ministry, Bridget Vermeesch, David Stack, Dean Wilson, Eileen Palmer, Marcia Smith and Matt Stack will assume leadership roles. Please pray for them as they help develop ChristCare Groups as a way we at Alma First Church of God can join our lives to God's love for the world. "Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." 1 Corinthians 12:27
Tuesday, November 11th is the deadline to turn in any information you would like to include in our December Prompter. Please submit your request to the church office by 9:00AM that day. As a reminder; should you need announcements made in our weekly bulletin be sure to submit your request by 3:00PM the Wednesday prior to Sunday's bulletin
Do you love pie? Do you love helping kids? Well you can get the best of both worlds with this amazing event! You are officially invited to YFC's Third Annual Pie Auction! We're hosting it at our facility on Cheesman road on November 25th at 7pm. We'll have available, free of charge, coffee and ice cream so you can enjoy your purchase that evening if you wish! We also need your help. Would you consider donating a pie for us to auction off? If so, please contact Jonathan Crider ASAP or phone (989)388.6225 and let us know what you're planning to bring. We'll need it at the YFC Center on Tuesday, November 25th, between 8am and 3pm, or Monday, November 24th between 8am and 4pm. Thank you so much! This is a community event, so invite your friends. Hope to see you there! All proceeds go to the ministry of Youth for Christ.
Come out for a FREE open rec night for adults (H.S. grads +) Wednesday Evenings 8 - 10 p.m. at the YFC Student Center, 2550 W. Cheesman Rd in Alma. We will have open gym and the skate park will be available as well. Our first open rec night is Wednesday, November 5 and will continue on Wednesdays through April. Please pray for the Honduran people who are suffering from heavy rains and flash flooding that occurred in the month of October. 34 have died and thousands have been evacuated from their homes. Many homes and crops have been destroyed. Donny and his family are fine, but they ask for our prayers for everyone in Honduras.
