Special Called Business Meeting Regarding the Potential Purchase of Giles Property
Please note this last Sunday, Pastor Steve misspoke when he said that the special called business meeting would be 'after the second service' this coming Sunday. We continue with our summer schedule of one service at 9:00am through September 6th.
The Church Council is very pleased to announce a special called business meeting on Sunday, August 30th, following the 9:00 am worship service. The purpose of this business meeting will be to vote to approve or reject a purchase agreement for the purchase of Giles Tire Store. The church council is unanimously recommending this purchase to the congregation.
We strongly encourage all members of the congregation to be present to vote on August 30. However, if you are unable to attend, absentee ballots are available at the welcome center. Absentee ballots must be turned in to the church office prior to the business meeting. The church office hours are Monday - Friday from 9 am - 4 pm (closed for lunch from 12 - 1).
The church council requests your prayers for clarity and guidance in this decision process.
Questions and Church Council Responses from the Information Meeting 8/16
- There are underground tanks from previous users that remain buried on the property. Were both tanks filled with cement?
Yes. All tanks are secure at this time. We have no reason to believe that there will be any further deterioration.
- Is the youth building (Filling Station) renovation paid for?
Yes.
- What is the cost of demolition?
Not known at this time and there have been no final determinations on the purpose/use of the property.
- Have you considered selling our properties in town and moving the whole operation to another location?
Yes. A feasibility was reviewed by the Church Council. A motion was passed at a regular Church Council Business Meeting to stay in this location for multiple reasons including ministry and cost.
- There was a statement made that "disturbing the soil" would add extra cost to any land use. Will demolition plans require "disturbing the soil"?
No, not if we decide to level the building, it will not create a problem. If we go deeper into the soil ... it is expected that the contamination area is minimal and the costs will not be significant.
- Is the property being purchased to provide more parking for the Church? If yes, do we really need it?
Maybe. That may be the first step and is probably the most likely probability. It is the first step to future plans that provide the congregation with considerable options for growth. The person that provided the feasibility study recommended the purchase for any future growth plans.
- Is there a requirement to expand parking if the Church grows?
Yes. Parking is based on municipal parking, which can be restricted at any time.
GENERAL COMMENTS
